Today is the Day

One day, or day one. You decide.

We are given 24 hours in a day. 30/31 days in a month. 12 months in a year. How many years though? No one knows for certain. Some could get 80, 90, or only 50. We have insane technology these days that can do truly incredible things. We can detect genes that cause cancer years before it will occur, and we can take a heart from one person and place it into another to give them their life back. No matter how advanced we have come we still cannot detect how many years one is guaranteed. This is why it is important to think "today is the day."

Today is the day for what you may ask? Well, it could be the day for whatever you want it to be. You want it to be the day you start that new workout program? Go for it. Want that new haircut? Cut those locks. Want to fix a relationship? Today is the day my friend. We are not guaranteed a tomorrow. We are guaranteed a now. A today. These seconds that we are in at this very moment.

A quote that has always resonated with me is "Don't wait. Life goes faster than you think."  In our day and time we get so caught up in our phones, laptops, TV's, and tablets that we forget to look up and see time passing us by. Opportunity passing by. Memories to be made drifting away in our technological dust. Life goes faster than we think! We need to remember this. We don't always have the time to just sit on our phones and say we will do something tomorrow. Seize the day. Seize the moment.

Courage can be so hard to come by in our time. We are in the spotlight always. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and all the other social media sites make it so that we feel everyone is watching our every move. Or maybe we feel like everything we do has to be for the world to see, and we only feel good if everyone likes it. That's not how life should be. Live for you. Live for the feeling you get when you see a killer sunset. The moments when you are laughing so hard you can't breathe. The days that feel like everything is going your way. Those are the things we should live for. Not how many people saw it. Or liked it. Or approved of our every move.

We get so caught up in the opinion of others, and we tend to forget that really the only opinion that matter is our own. And God. Other than that there should be no care in the world about what others think. No one can live your life for you. You live your life. You are the one who has to deal with the consequences. The one who reaps the rewards. Since all that is true, then why are you caring about the others? Today is the day. Seize these moments. These seconds. Live your life for you. Embrace it.

I'm sure you are wondering, "who does this girl think she is? Telling us what to do with our lives?" I totally agree. Who am I to tell you how to live? I am just giving the advice that has come from my 21 years of living in doubt, self-consciousness, and fear. I have had my fair share of mistakes. I have not seized the day on so many occasions. That is all the past though. Now I can tell you that I wake up in the morning, and I tell myself "today is the day."
